The Autobiography of My Dead Brother
This book is about a teen named Jesse. He finds himself surrounded by the violence of intercity New York. He copes by writings stories and sketching pictures in his sketch pad. This book is a coming of age book because it shows Jesse's internal conflict of resisting gangs, trying to understand the complexities of his friendships with his blood brother, Rise (who has conformed to gang violence) and loyalty.
This book is a great example of nonconformity in transcendentalism because the main characters struggle against society within the world around him.
